St Bartholomew's CE Primary

Considerate, Co-operative, Confident

History Curriculum Page

Our School Vision: Our goal is to produce members of society who are Considerate to everyone they meet, who have a Co-operative approach to life and who are Confident in each other and in themselves to strive for the very best that they can be.

We aim to achieve this by using Christian values as our guide and helping them to grow within a caring and inclusive community

How History fits into the vision:

We long to develop a love for history by providing the children with the crucial skills of enquiry, critical analysis and the process of change to develop prospective and judgement.  We therefore provide the children with a variety of sources to explore historically valid questions, hypotheses and make valid inferences.

Our History Subject Leader:

Hello, my name is Mrs Connor and I lead history.  I believe that through history we can encourage the love for reading, adventure, exploring, discovering, solving problems and seeking answers.  I have found Whitworth’s history fascinating and we aim to encourage children’s interest and enthusiasm to learn about local history.

Our History Curriculum:

Our History Curriculum follows the National Curriculum requirements providing a broad and balanced curriculum and ensuring the development of historical knowledge and skills.

Our history intent:

At St. Bartholomew’s C of E Primary School, we believe that a high-quality history education will help pupils gain a coherent knowledge and understanding of Britain’s past and that of the wider world.   Teaching should equip children to ask questions, think critically, weigh evidence and develop perspective and judgement.  History teaching should help pupils to understand the complexity of pupils’ lives, the process of change, the diversity of societies and the relationship between different groups.
